Well, there was another studio that opened as I was waiting for the red tape to be cut when I first got here. That did not bother me, because I felt there was really a big difference between us. But apparently there is now another person teaching here in the community. I find it a bit disturbing, but at the same time there is no code on that kind of thing. But normally before setting your business up, you check into the community first to see who else is already there and then you choose accordingly. So there you go! Manosque has more than Accès Pilates, but there is only one Sabrina!!!!

Oh wow, it has been a long time since I have posted!
This winter has been rough here in haute Provence! Clients and I fought off lots of illnesses. Fortunately the type of training we do in my Pilates studio is in direct response to the physical needs and abilities on the day the client is in with me. This goes for physical problems like low back pain as well as recovering from a bug! I will not exhaust someone if his/her body is at the tail end of fighting off an illness. Instead we will gently mobilize major muscle groups and work on calm stretching, utilizing the equipment to support the positions and purposeful breathing to help eliminate stored waste. Clearing the air in the studio is also of utmost importance, and during the height of flu season, I have thrown open the windows and front door of the studio to cross ventilate and clean out the air! I have a fabulous essential oil diffuseur that I use daily with a special organic mix that not only freshens the air but has traditional oils which are known to kill bacteria and viruses (thyme being one of the biggies). Thankfully we're seeing the first signs of spring...buds on the almond trees, violets in the woods and, the chickadees are preparing their nests and looking for all the seeds and food they can to prepare for the arrival of their young! Welcome spring!! Wow, what a winter here in Provence. Instead of piles of snow and then sunny days, we have had a steady 7 weeks of rain sprinkled with a couple of nice days. Yes the doldrums set in. You get spoiled quickly when you get used to the constant clear skies!
As usual, Pilates to the rescue. Getting on the machines , revving up my heart rate and core temperature and then stretching neglected muscles really helps to chase away the blues. This new studio is great too, because now I can get it to a proper temperature to exercise in total comfort. On a different note...after a few months, and in typical provence style, I have the lettering for my signs. I am hoping to get the new signs up in place in the next week. Wish us luck, this is not recommended as a do-it-yourself type project! After a couple of months of negotiations, vacation and then a serious remodeling job, Accès Pilates is pleased to announce our new location!
You can now find us at 9 Place du Terreau right at the top corner of the parking du Terreau in the centre ancien of Manosque. (Look for the yellow door) More information and photos to follow, stay tuned. Accès Pilates a le plaisir de vous proposer un nouveau local sur le parking du Terreau dans le centre ancien de Manosque. Retrouvez nous maintenant à 9 Place du Terreau avec la porte jaune! Plus d'informations et photos à suivre. Big news, coming down the pike! September will see some improvements for Accès Pilates. Current clients will definitely approve!
More details to follow. Summer has been heating up, and now we're experiencing afternoon thunderstorms (which used to be the norm here in Provence). The region is beginning to see its influx of tourists. We've already hit the beach and my, does the water of the Mediterranean seem salty! It takes very little effort to float. In fact I tried some Pilates movements and I could really feel the support of the sea. Maybe I should develop a salt water routine -- and offer it to those going on vacation :) Soirée Porte Ouverte / Open House est 7 mars entre 17h et 20h. Venez voir les appareils et profitez des ateliers démonstratifs sur les demi heures. (Come by and see the equipment and take advantage of the demonstrations on the half hours.)
J'espere vous voir! Hope to see you there! The end of the year is quickly approaching. I will be offering sessions this week, but then I too shall go on holiday until the New Year.
The studio will be getting two new Christmas presents (le studio reçoit deux cadeaux de Noël), which will help round out the Pilates possibilities until I go back to the US and crate and ship the other equipment. Pictures to follow (photos à suivre)... We had snow (de la neige ce matin) this morning and the hillsides around Manosque actually had a light dusting of white! The great news is that I had the electricity turned on in the studio Tuesday! That means your Pilates session (cours / séances de Pilates en confort grâce au chauffage merci M. Electricien!) will be warm and your muscles won't stiffen up because the heaters will be cranking out warmth!
I am pleased to announce that all of the waiting is over. I am now official and as such I have a business siret number. I have a few things to do in the studio, hanging curtains, molding to put in place and trying to stop drafts of cold air. I will soon have the open house (bien tôt la soirée porte ouverte pour me presenter au puclic) to announce my grand opening. My oh my is it HOT!!! I know, having spent as many years in Texas as I have, you'd think that I'd be used to it! So out on the street it is scorching. The cool thing about my studio is, like many of the old buildings here, the walls are about 18 inches thick, therefore they act as excellent insulators and temperature regulators!
So stepping into the studio for a session is doubly refreshing! Now all we need is a pool...actually, that is in the town across the Durance river from Manosque. The town is called Greoux-les-Bains and it boasts thermal baths first run by the ancient Romans. I have not dipped in the waters yet, but am hoping to very soon. The town itself is very cute. |
